Hosted by legendary comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews that showcases the colorful history of the automobile. Whether he’s exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest super car, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won’t get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car.
About Jay Leno: Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, lovable TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…it’s no wonder that Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

  • in 1964, 17 years old, I walked into my local Ford dealer and saw a brand new 289 Cobra sitting on the show room floor. Ever since the Cobra is my ultimate dream car. The sales man told me that that Cobra sold for $3900,00, imagine that.

  • Correct me here, BUT, didn't "Road & Track" just bestow NUMBER ONE status on this car? They assembled the most iconic super cars of all time, and this shelby was their NUMBER ONE. That's really saying something.

  • The Shelby Cobra, the Dodge Viper, the Ford GT40 and the Chevrolet C8 Corvette. From 1962 to 2020, nearly 60 years...these are the only 4 American sports cars of any consequence. Jay hints at it here...on the one hand all the continuation Shelbys and the kit Shelbys have really detracted from the legacy of the all original cars. On the other hand, there is a heritage, a tradition and a performance excellence in every original Shelby Cobra that an eternity of Vipers, GT40s and C8 Corvettes will never approach. Carroll Shelby's formula approached an Occam's Razor of simplicity. Take a small, lightweight car...and then cram the most powerful engine available into it. And yet, here we are nearly 60 years later, and few manufacturers seem to understand that the simplest formula to performance success is still the best. Thank you so much for sharing this engineering icon, this automotive icon, this...AMERICAN icon with the littles, Jay.

  • The one thing that comes to mind is how very small it is. I’ve never been up close to an actual AC cobra but for some reason I thought they were a little bigger. I should have known, it’s based on an English sports car. Of course it was going to be small!

  • Save yourself a sizable fortune and just buy a Superformance MK3.. Unless you’re a stickler for value or having an original car from the period, I don’t see why you’d want a 7 figure car like this, versus a Superformance that can do the same thing. What does an original competition Cobra have over a SPF car besides costing about $1,000,000 or more? Same goes for a period GT40, versus a Superformance GT40. I mean, you can get a “preowned” Superformance MK3, with around 1-2000ish miles, for about $80,000-85,000, if you want to have a Cobra that’s basically ready to go, and don’t want to wait for a SPF dealer to complete your car. Or, if you don’t mind a bit higher mine car, you can find them in the $60,000 range There’s a reason that they are the ones who built the GT40 in Ford versus Ferrari..They’re just that good at what they do. We need to support companies like them, because they’ll be the ones that continue to make “drivers cars”, after most automaker go hybrid or fully electric with their whole lineup..

  • I remember reading years ago about how Shelby and Dean Moon dropped in the first V8 (289) into a AC and tearing up the oil fields that were behind Mooneyes. And I remember the oil fields. I grew up in the La Mirada/Whittier area anf my aunt lived in Santa Fe Springs. And there was Mooneyes and a Topless bar, surrounded by oil fields.
