    • Nice thought... naive at best but it is a nice video. Quite a few holes in this line of thinking too. Like who's going to run that prosperous farm if all the children become research technicians. Families would have to be quite large to sustain this growth to make up for continuing to run the established foundation while also supplying people for research development. The "pie" can only get so big. This way of thinking is nice... but assumes too many factors as guaranteed. Look at it this way on a different subject, one not so perky. Humans can make a baby every 9 months but live to be an average of 80. If you were using this videos "logic" for cautioning against over population. You would have to assume that every single woman that could have a child, was actually having a child at every possible chance they could. No capable woman would never not be pregnant. It's just silly and completely ignores the actual random variables of life.

  • The theory is based on the fact that the pie is growing with each innovations. But economic growth is a myth. The exploitation of ressources without self-suffiency or renew of these ones isn't viable on long term. It's even hypocrite to say that, today, we do not function like before. Bourgeoisie and western world steel the values of productions from workers in every country. Forgeting it, is a flaw in your theory. Steeling parts of the pie and fight for it didn't disapear after the industrialisation. So your theory is collapsing, even if the purpose to help country in development is nice but idealist. First, maybe we can help them against imperialism and neo slavery ? Plus, the market and liberal economy are based on demand / supply but demand can be unethical and counter productive with useless production. Supply can still follow it for the good of free market and circulary economy. I usually love your video but here it's too much simplisitic and you forget a lot of details ... I know you're searching for vulgarization, but saying that our system is better now than before and we just have to help the poor ... it doesn't help at all. You're just showing the theory of liberal system in a capitalistic world, you're not giving any advice or concret solution, specialy for us the consumer and finally you forget alot of concret problematic.

    • DiabloMinero Humans are not precautionary beings and need a catastrophe or death to happen before a problem is addressed. To fix a problem like this the 1% needs to be ones affected by this. With them controlling our global economy they hold all the money and therefore are the ones who set the standard of living. However, humans haven’t gone through a global market collapse yet and a third world war would cause that. Of course the people who would start a global war would be the government and the 1% and they actually wouldn’t do it for said global market collapse. What puts me in fear is the xenophobic and isolationism movement is growing between china, the US, and Russia but the difference is in today’s economic trade, one would die without the other.... unless you did a old school takeover of your opponent and gained so much power no other country cant defy you or not trade with you without getting annihilated. This is highly unlikely too since allies of the attacked superpower would also nuke. Russia can theoretically nuke every country on the planet 3 times over at almost the same hour. The would also die too though from a global nuclear radiation. We can just install universal base income for every American, but we don’t have time for rational ideas. They want global dominance and technology makes the difference of having a takeover possible, but it wont be the US thanks to trump. The US hasn’t been more exposed and broken. We have around 12 chief government positions in the US today that are either empty or has an acting member that is not qualified. Russia and the china are constantly trying to hack into our data and we do to them. Chinese literally keep trying to get in Trump’s Mar a Lago. Its just if someone is gonna try something is probably going to be soon. Once one of them finds a way to take out the other without destroying themselves they will do it. Luckily the nukes keep them at bay but from I’ve seen on John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight our nuclear silos are so under kept and so mismanaged that theres cases in which a pizza delivery man walked into the control room and found the soldiers there sleeping with all the doors unlocked. Another time they have to keep the silo door open with a crowbars because its stuck. Recently, they did fire a bunch of these idiots with tests and hopefully are reinvesting in their silos again. But i think they are reinvesting because the fear of nukes is needed to come back. How do we fix all these issues? Find a way to fuck up the economy for the 100 before the 99% die in the crossfire.

    • That's why we have to make everyone that rich. It's not unattainable. We have/can make more fissile material than we're likely to need anytime in the foreseeable future, and throwing energy at problems is usually a good way to solve them.

  • Currently, we have Saturdays and Sundays off. If you could choose a third day, would Monday really be the best decision? Saturday and Sunday are based on the Christian and Jewish Sabbath. But the Muslim and Pastafarian Sabbath is the Friday. Additionally, there is a collective hatred for Mondays. Everything that has ever been said about Monday would become difficult to understand for generations who grew up with Mondays off. Especially because even Garfield hates Mondays despite not having a job!

    • +ImpMontezuma Asteroid mining is a technology for obtaining *lucrative* amounts of metals that is currently being worked on today. As for water, if we cute down on bottled water and perfectly manicured lawns, we'd have far more available drinking water. Which isn't even getting into our global population is starting to stabilize. Iron I'll grant that we'll constantly need more of even if we stop growing as a species, but as more civilizations reach stage 4 on the Demographic Trending Model our need to use more and more water will decrease Like maybe you are right. Every other time people have been scared of overpopulation ending us they were wrong but this time it happens to be true. But I'm sure Thomas Robert Malthus thought the same and he was proven extremely wrong

      Fiona DjwFiona Djw9 gün önce
    • +Fiona Djw I'm not talking about energy. I speak of natural resources, such as metals, petroleum, etc. I'll give you an example, the country where I live is a major exporter of iron, there are several cities here with companies and huge machines extracting this material. And I could stay here all day talking how bad that is for the environment and etc. But let's forget about that for a secound. My point here is, with current consumption and with the current extraction rate, these mines will last 50, maybe 100 years at most. But imagine now that consumption in the world doubles or triples, I don't know if these companies could deal with such demand, and even if they do, that would deplete the reserves of those resources really fast. And that is only with the iron, imagine other resources. Like water... So... Could the world increase the exploitation of these resources even more? Sorry, I don't think so... And yes, ok I know, technology changes things, we find new alternatives, new materials that use different resources and so on. And that's precisely why I'm saying here that I DON'T KNOW if you can say that this video is right. Maybe it is, maybe not... Who knows. I'm just pointing out the fact that it's not as simple as it makes it look

      ImpMontezumaImpMontezuma9 gün önce
    • Y'know what's also not infinite? The amount of humans. A finite amount of humans consuming a finite amount of resources can absolutely work out and with renewable energy becoming a *big* thing, our most finite resource energy is becoming far less so

  • Very nice video. You forgot the most important thing: producing without control is leading us to global warming and reaching the highest levels of anxiety, depression and mental illness. Looks like we are animals not made to produce, but to be happy. The only things you actually need are food and water, you can survive without mostly anything else. I'm not against your altruist point of view, which I deeply share. But collaboration has nothing to do with capitalism. Nowadays we adore gods like comfort, entertainement and super production that do more harm than good. We are all fat because we live in the opulence and excesive comfort. I'll make a picture for you: We adore the best football players in the world, and some of them die very young of heart attacks or absolutely destroy their bodies before their 40's. If we lived according to out nature, we would be saying to these men: calm down, lad. You don't need to be the best, you can be regular. Regular is fine, don't be crazy harming your body to reach such an idiotic goal. But this is how capitalism works: Work more hours, produce more, be fit, learn languages, travel all over the world, have a nice family, have a nice house, have a nice car, be the best.... and there you go, suicide and mental illness to its high rates. As for me, I would like to live among the trees, fish 1 hour at day and enjoy the others 23. Mental health problems do not exist in tribal commnunities of the Amazonas.

Most of what was said in this video is developed over generations. People who care about the future generation try to just make life better for their offspring with little care of others.around them.

Yes, there's more pie and many of us have more pie, but most of the pie is held by the top 1% of the birds who have vast vaults full of pie that nobody can eat. It's just sitting there, growing and growing and doing very little else.

  • The only real issue I have with this video is that it doesn't mention the bad side of innovation. Here's a well-known example: In 1938, everyone, from the Western Parts of Alaska to the Eastern Parts of Oceania knew a war was coming, and everyone knew this war would be the deadliest war in human history, a war so deadly, that it could cut the world population in half. Most countries did not want to stomach such a high cost, so some scientists in Germany decided to look for an alternate solution, to allow their country to win the war at a relatively low cost to their population. That year of 1938, they split the atom. 7 years later, a bomb was created that could destroy an entire city in a few seconds. They called this bomb the Atomic Bomb. The selfish demand for a weapon that could save a country's men and women in the armed forces from death, within 4 years after it was initially used, would turn into a weapon that could kill every living thing on the Earth.

  • Question for anyone who feels like answering: Do you believe all areas of life are becoming positive sum, or are there things which must always be zero sum? Particularly sexual selection? An imbalanced sex ratio is always favorable to the rarer sex, and even with a perfectly balanced ratio, some will have abundance at the cost of another's scarcity. Even if everything is absolutely even for everyone (which is theoretically possible but will never happen), everyone is ok but nobody has abundance. So what do you think? Also, sex robots and polyamory are out of the question.
