Accent Expert Breaks Down 17 Actors Playing Real People | WIRED

Dialect coach Erik Singer once again takes a look at idiolects, better known as the specific way one individual speaks. Did Rami Malek do a good job speaking through prosthetics to become Freddie Mercury? How accurate was Jennifer Lawrence's Long Island accent in Joy? Did Christian Bale nail former Vice President Dick Cheney?

  • Just a note here. Autistic, awake adults hate Temple Grandin. Everything she says about autism and how autistic people, especially children, is wrong to the point of when it is followed, you get autistic people like me. The kind who wishes he could clone Temple 50,000 times so he can turn them into a Vlad Țepeș style forest of corpses.

  • When and how did we stop pronouncing the long E in the definite article The.? When followed by a word beginning with a vowel I would say eg ''thee artist'' Now I always hear ''thuh artist'' A long E flows into the following word's vowel. (boy, is this hard to explain in writing lol)

  • After learning all this information about speech it's even more disgusting knowing that deaf people were forced to learn speech in schools before.

    Cre4tureCre4ture11 gün önce
    • @Shirokröte it's a waste of time for deaf people to learn speech. It was done for many years and was extremely useless.

      Cre4tureCre4ture8 gün önce
    • @Cre4ture A combination of the two would probably be the best.

      ShirokröteShirokröte8 gün önce
    • @Shirokröte its way harder for them to learn how to speak than for us to learn a little sign language. Life is already way harder for them, they shouldn't have to learn something like that when they have their own language

      Cre4tureCre4ture9 gün önce
    • @Cre4ture Because a majority of people can speak and hear. To me it only seems beneficial for deaf people to at least know some way to communicate with those that don't know sign language. Even if it's just saying "Sorry, I cannot hear you". The best option would probably be to teach everyone sign language but that, knowing the nicheness of the problem, seems implausible.

      ShirokröteShirokröte9 gün önce
    • @Shirokröte why would someone who can't hear be forced to learn how to speak. They can't hear what sounds they would need to correct. And um idk, why would they need to talk? They can't hear whoever they are talking to.
