Android Q: exclusive hands-on with the new features

Android 10 Q beta 3 is available today on more devices than any previous Android beta has been available on before. • This gestures for navigation are not a NEW thing.... They where implemented in many ways (identically in Huawei's skin of android EMUI) for at least a few years now. Nova Launcher has that menu thing for example and as I said before, at least on the latest EMUI the gestures navigation is identical.

Like white for 100-70 Blue for 70-50 Yellow 50-20 Red 20-1 Or You can remove the 🔋 icon at the top, and just give the batter percentage only with color inside it.

Now, Google is implementing this thing. Great!!! Why don't I see people talking about this? Weird. Learn something from OxygenOS. They know what they are doing with their gestures.

  • When Microsoft releases a new Windows Lenovo, Dell and HP don't have to approve it, modify it or anything-else it. You just upgrade your OS without asking the manufacturer of your device for permission. There's no actual reason this couldn't be the same with smartphones. In the end, they are just small computers. I think it's time for Google to take drastic measures and tell hardware manufacturers they only get the official Google apps if they release hardware drivers separately and/or use standard drivers, just like "big" computer manufacturers do. Of course, Google can't just ask them to update their drivers so they definitely are compatible with the next Android versions. But it's not unusual that you can install a Windows 8 compatible driver on Windows 10. This way we would even get major Android updates directly from Google and the manufacturers can't force us to buy new devices by just not updating the old ones.

  • These gestures are actually present in MIUI right now.. it's not to say that Google's late, I don't say that at all. Xiaomi has an interesting way to deal with the app drawer on each side of the screen because they also have that swipe left/right to go back. Actually, on the top half part of the screen, there is not that swipe to go back, so it allows us, users, to access the drawer and on the bottom half part of the screen, the swipes do get into function.. so that's a way to do things !
