Castrol vs Kendall & Quaker State vs Valvoline. Which 2 oils will win? Let's find out!

Castrol vs Kendall and Quaker State vs Valvoline competing for the final two positions in the Elite 8 oil series showdown. I am not sponsored by Castrol, Kendall, Quaker State, Valvoline or any other manufacturer. I purchased all of the products tested. 100% of Project Farm videos are ideas that come from those leaving comments. So, thank you very much for requesting this video! In the previous episodes, Amsoil won over Royal Purple, Amazon won over Liqui Moli, and Red Line won over Super Tech, Pennzoil over Lucas, and Penrite over Motul. The brands that won will advance to next round in the oil championship series.
The testing methods outlined in this video are my own and not performed using expensive oil lab testing equipment or following the ASTM, SAE or API testing standards. The three tests outlined in the video include tests for viscosity at varying temperatures, film strength, and evaporative testing. In my opinion, the testing approaches used in this video provide consumers with valuable information on choosing the right motor oil for their specific application. Hope you enjoy the video and thank you very much for supporting the channel by watching the commercials and through Patreon support. www.patreon.com/projectfarm

  • How about you do an oil change on your vehicle at different mileages (1,000 mi 2,500 mi, 3,000 mi, 5,000 mi) with the brand you like to use and see what the results are. The oil from your vehicle is getting the proper use it intended for and giving you real time results.

  • Awesome, thank you for taking the time to make these very informative videos! Maybe test Castrol Magnatec in the future? The ads for Castrol Magnatec claim that the oil sticks to metal surfaces to prevent wear, which I think would be an interesting thing to test.

  • question. The anti wear test. are you using the cooked oil version or the never heated version.???? I would think using the cooked version would be the test decider. Would this not determine whether the properties are holding upto their claim status.? Or a before and after heat cycle testing. Or would this only work if the oil has been used for the claimed 12000 miles usage.? I think Amsoil will win overall.

  • We want extream heat condition show down between 5w30 synthatic and 20w50 conventional oil as I live in the middle east with avrage 46c temp in summer and it never reach 0 in winter where I live and the dealer ship clame that 5w30 is good for 10000 km and now The owners of cars like Taho and Youken complain that after 2 years of using 5w30 fully synthatic for 10000 km as the dealer ship adviced has ruind there engines So I'm woundring if thicker viscosity oils which mostly conventional are the best for our climate as I'm now using total 5000 20w50 api sl and I don't go on that over 5000 km I actually change oil and filter monthly even I don't reach 5000 km every month

I’m a member of a Ford group and guys were stating they swapped the viscosity of their oils out and their engines ran better with less wear or turbo problems ie 5/30 to 5/40 etc synthetic of course wonder if its True 🤔😂 apparently Ford say to do that with higher mileage ! but what if you did it from day dot would it have less wear 🤔😂😂😂👍🏻

  • I've been keeping up with this series from the beginning. It's been great! However as much as I feel like as a**hole for waiting this long to being it up... I think from this point on you should maybe do a 2 part lubricity test. Part 1: clean oil as you have been doing. Part 2 with it used. Maybe after a couple hours in a lawnmower just for test purposes? I feel that the effects of natural engine blowby in the oil is even more important to test rather than it's condition when new. Seeing as the engine is running on used oil more often than new. THANKS!!! Keep up the good work!!!

  • Can you please test a single weight motor oil. Look at the sheer test. It is actually better than any full synthetic motor oils. There are no viscosity index improver that evaporate. please advise that single weight motor oils are only used for climates above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.I have been using the Walmart brand and it cost me only $2.78 per quart. It's for me better in a hot climate than any multi-grade fully synthetic motor oil. Can you please test it the viewers need to know. There's no point in using a pour test because single weight motor oils are not used for cold climates. They are billions of people that live in the southern borders like me. Thank you

      Project FarmProject Farm29 gün önce
  • Although all competing oils meet API SN, ILSAC GF-5 performance levels but besides this they also meet different OEM specifications. One oil meets FORD specifications while other oil meets GM specifications as well. One of the oils meets API SN PLUS performance level. API SN PLUS has different additive chemistry than API SN to over come LSPI (low speed pre-ignation) phenomena. Different type of additives are used to meet different OEM specifications. May be one oil contain more antiwear additive than other so it has better antiwear properties, similarly other oil may contain more detergent and dispersant additive and it has better soot handling properties. So the wear test is not acceptable unless you know the additive components. Compare apple to apple than the results will be acceptable.

    • Thanks for the constructive feedback.

      Project FarmProject Farm29 gün önce
  • Oil flow test is base less unless first you test the viscosities of competing oils. The viscosity range for SAE 5W-30 is 9.3cSt to 12.5cSt at 100C. So an oil having 11cSt viscosity will reach to finish line more quickly than an oil having viscosity of 12cSt, Although both are SAE 5W-30 grade oils. Engine oil contains viscosity improver (polymer) to boost viscosity. Cold flow behaviour is greatly affected by amount of polymer which is added into oil to boost viscosity. So for the flow test, all the oils should have similar viscosities to compare.

    • @Project Farm Trying to recall my time in the polymer and elastomer laboratory to figure out why. Hum....perhaps they have a higher concentration of polyolefins then the other synthetic oils and the carbon bond of the polyolefins broke down deceasing the viscosity? Hard to tell. Wish one of us had a Rheometer handy, haha. Would be useful equipment for figuring this stuff out.

      Jesse SisolackJesse Sisolack28 gün önce
    • You are right. It lost viscosity. Not sure why. Ideally, motor oil doesn't change from heat exposure.

Then see if the engine could keep running or if the tar and gunk stops the engine and what the inside of it looks like after. It would probably kill the engine and block the intake and valves but it might be a wake up call to some smokers

This comes from hearing after flipping a car over, most times the motor is toast from running upside down. I know the understanding of gravity and oil causing a lack of oil inside the crankcase, but from your videos, it’s shown motors can run for a little while (does cause damage) but is still able to run... where I hear they’re just toast! Wanna run a lawn mower upside down as a video for me? 😂

Not necessarily in terms of performance, but mostly in terms of cleaning capabilities over several tanks? • Yes! I get to see Castrol. I have a new idea: Test Top Tier Gasolines from different gas stations. How well do they 'clean'?

  • A different channel, called tylertube, tried draino as a engine oil. In his vid he was unable to keep his mower running for more then five seconds before it shut down. I would love to see you have a go at using draino as motor oil.

  • I have an idea for a video. I accidentally got welding wire into an intake port and in the combustion chamber. I believe the rod welded to the top of the piston because there was an occasional tap and now it's steady. I haven't pulled the head yet or got a bore scope. So my question is: Will welding rod or welding wire weld to the top of a piston in the heat of a combustion chamber?

  • Idea for video Testing different type of car engine air filter to see how good it is to filter out particles(All for the same car model, same size and shape) 1. OEM paper filter 2. cheapest paper filter you can find 3. reusable oiled filter (K&N for example) 4. Foam filter that's popular in off-road user For testing procesure maybe make a filter box with powerful fan to suck air into the filter, pouring the exact amount of some fine dust (about 5 micron or more) in front of the intake then having white color PM2.5 filter to catch whatever the testing filter let it through(OEM paper filter is rated at 5 micron I think) Also while you are at it maybe test the pressure different between front and back of the filter to see the pressure different, also before and after the dust clogged up the filter.
