This year we are getting a seemingly brand new take on the classic Batman villain, the Joker. This version stars Joaquin Phoenix as a failed comedian named Arthur Fleck - a new name for the old character. People are saying it's a whole new origin story for the Joker and I think that's true... but maybe not in the way most people are thinking. I think this Joker is not actually REAL! What do I mean? • It's funny how my character ENSanity was always compared to the Joker with a kind of disgust. "You're just copying something greater!" or "Nice ripoff, how long did it take you to come up with such a stupid name?". However, I find such comments as compliments. To have a character I created back when I was just a child compared to one of the most iconic superhero villains of all time with thoughts that I straight copied him makes me happy. Over the years I'm glad that I could expand ENSanity to a point that people at cons actually seek me out and several have even asked if I was ever going to try and make a series about him. This version of the Joker honestly really made me smile cause it's the closest to ENSanity I've ever seen. A man who has crippling mental illnesses that is pushed so far he breaks. That's all ENSanity is after all. A person who suffered schizophrenia, unimaginably horrific hallucinations of torture and death lasting lifetimes, voices whispering cruel truths into his ears, and multiple personalities trying to open his eyes ever since childhood and now having lost what little grip he has on reality then giving into the madness. PS: Drunk, new meds, and the 1st anniversary of when my mother was confirmed to have terminal cancer. She died 01/15/2019, 4 days before my 29th birthday. So please excuse the ramblings of a drunk, depressed, insane, suicidal man.

  • I relate to the joker too much. I'm also cast out by society, I've been stabbed and beaten at the age of 11, my parents have divorced and my sister died. I used to cry. But Now I'm Smiling.

  • Here's a theory for the new Batman movie: Arthur Fleck (aka the joker) has to team up with Batman, (Thor and Loki-wise) to destroy the real Villian.... Batman's grandfather, Arthur's real father, who is secretly still alive.

  • With all due respect, a quick internet search and a reference to the DSM does not render you a clinician. Your view is overly simplistic and is doing a disservice to both people who suffer with Mental Health conditions and to professionals. I would invite you to consult actual professionals for such sensitive and important issues, to avoid contributing to misconception and misapprehension. By the way, Arthur was adopted, so your "hereditary" theory is already mistaken, along with the vast majority of your "analysis".

  • Did you notice? Arthur Fleck is right handed. Joker is left handed. There is clearly a developing condition of split personality. Watch it again. There are 2 different people in Joaquin's character. Their laughs are different too.

  • I noticed there was a part of a thing in one of your film theories you said, "The joker is a year older than batman AKA Bruce Wayne". But in this theory there shows Bruce Wayne as a kid while the joker on the other hand is noticeably without a doubt older than Batman AKA Bruce Wayne. But... HEY! It's just a theory probably a TRUE theory.

  • *SPOILER ALERT* So I actually watched this video and the other one before watching the movie, which helped me find some other view of the movie, and it goes like this. The Mother has a split personality disorder (Dissociative identity disorder/DID). The movie from the very start explains that everything is not how it seems, this is shown when Arthur and his Mother are watching the tv show together, and Arthur creates a scene in his head where he is in the audience attending the show live. In this scene, he is put in the spotlight and becomes the focus of the show. This fits perfectly into the fact that his mother's file stated she suffers from Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) as well as others. This scene created a feeling of self-importance which fits into the symptoms of NPD, now you might just say it's passed down from his Mother..however let's just say some of the scenes are true, Arthur finds out he is adopted..yes his Mother might of abused him but that would not link to NPD and the scene. Let's skip a little further to where Arthur then "kills his Mother". I'm not 100% on this scene, due to the fact that when he starts to smother her with the pillow to death, her heartbeat doesn't rise.. it just faints to flatline. This might be due to the lack of energy she has after the accident, but the way i see it is, Arthur..her personality trying to take over which makes sense since she just had an accident.. Which is very common with (DID), people create these personalities to protect themself's from incidents, alot like putting on a mask (or facepaint *wink wink*). There is also a scene where Arthur appears in a sort of "flashback" to when Penny Fleck is in the institute. Yeah, this could have just been Arthur re-creating the moment of the scene.. or this could be what Penny was truly seeing. This isn't relevant but it's similar to Mr.Robot. A man who see's his dead Father and often gets controlled by a made personality. Anyway, let's pretend Penny does have NPD..the question remains who is Arthur? Well I do believe that Arthur was her adopted son and had abused him, but there is some evidence to suggest he died. Maybe not from the abuse Penny gave him but by being hit by a car. There are two scenes that create this possibility. Firstly when Arthur is running from the police he gets hit by a taxi, yes it could have been accidental due to the fact he was running through the road like an idiot, however, if this is a vision created by the mind of Penny, this is one detail that slipped that stood out to me. The next scene was when he tells a joke on the tv show. The original joke was going to be his suicide (gun to the head), but instead he tells them about a son getting his by a car which also includes a non-literal death. Despite the fact he told everyone he was the subway killer, no-one jumped into to arrest or restrain him which makes me think this is another one of penny's episode. Previously "joking" about her son dying in a car crash. Often technique used by hospitals to help people with (DID) is to confront the issues and work past them. I think this is a good overall work though. She mentions the car crash, and kills off the tv-host. The tv-host could be a resemblance of coming to grips. The confronting affect. What next? oh yeah the police take Arthur away in the police car which gets his by another car. Which helps emphasize my point of crash-related death of her son. Last but not least, Arthur is in the institue where he is taking to a support worker within the institue similar to how he spoke with the support worker before it "closed". There was no context of how he got there which makes me think he never left, meaning she (Penny Fleck) never left. Penny Fleck was institutionalized with a disorder possibility triggered by her sons death. She want's to be noticed and sympathized by people due to her Narcissistic personality disorder and does this through her sons death, and when no-one does she creates a personality to try work through this buuut this is just a theory...a film theory!!

  • Perhaps arthur is the father of the joker in dark knight rises. Thomas wayne and his wife died because of the riots created by Joaquin Phoenix joker. The fact that arthur fleck dies perhaps sends heath ledgers joker into a spiraling madness, because he feels Gotham is responsible for his fathers insanity. So and so forth. You get where I'm going with this.

  • I would consider a potential for Schizoaffective disorder rather than schizophrenia considering the prevalence of both manic and depressive symptoms. They increased along at the same rate as his psychosis so it seems they are linked. Also, as is obvious, antisocial personality disorder as he progresses and states that he thought he should feel remorse for killing those men but he didn't. He states this while talking to the orderly in the medical records department at the State Hospital.

  • I had a feeling the entire movie was in his head from the start. He’s trying to convince himself that he’s the reason for Batman’s creation and not the other way around. The entire movie seemed like Joker was telling a story about HIMSELF but drastically dumbed down the evil shit to portray himself as more good. Hopefully they show us how he really is by starting the movie off with the ending of the first end. He looked a lot more sinister when he told the doctor she wouldn’t get the joke
