How a Fire Sprinkler Works at 100,000fps - The Slow Mo Guys

Gav and Dan like learning and like fast things. In this episode, they learn about a fast thing.
A fire sprinkler that you can probably see above your head if you are watching this from your office when you should be working. Shame on you! Nah, just kidding. Watch more Slow Mo Guys at work!

  • Dan's '68 degree C or 155 American Things' reminds me of some American channel trying desperately to explain what 1 m social distancing was to Americans. So they resorted to saying 'Keep one alligator length away from each other', which, if you think about it, is the most American of things ever.

  • I have had inmates in jail that have broken the ampules to activate the sprinkler system in their cells to flood them. The water that comes out is blackish and clears up eventually because the water pipes have a lot of sediment in them because the water has been sitting in them for so long. So everything is pretty much blackish.

    comcastjohncomcastjohn12 gün önce
  • So now show "the real thing".. means water being under live sprinkler system pressure... (as it is the case in a sprinkler waterpipe system)... then blow the ampoule. zap.. . the showering fog of a water cloud builds up then.

  • This is why sprinklers are installed in highly pressurized steel pipes. Also, if this was actual sprinkler water Dan would not want to be anywhere near it because it's likely black water. Black water is disgusting

  • 0:30 Gav, the way you put those cameras down, you'll do yourself a terrible injury one day. It's all in the knees. Knees are designed for bending. Spines are not. Neither are the lumbar muscles. Please, for your health and the health of others, set a better example to your younger viewers. Sure, they didn't come here for proper lifting form, but maybe seeing you both putting heavy things down safely now and then will help reinforce safer behaviours in your younger viewers.

    crazy tcrazy tAylar önce
  • This has been from observing them and taking information from other places By what I have seen most of these have also a bubble in them that takes the force until it gets to the point where is can’t anymore and then the pressure continues to build until it bursted. I’m guessing that the liquid in the tube is just a water dye mixture. Then once the capture blows it then slows the plunger to be launched out by the water. I also think my school has had this happen (building finalised in 2013) as they allow 6th formers to get jobs inside the school and part of my job included looking after the DofE kit store located in the boiler/plant room. And over half them instructions on a4 paper for how to stop and reset the system where taped onto the unit and the science department had to deal with water damage to the floors.

  • I worked as a building engineer and have unfortunately been present when one was set off by a painter. Something that most people don’t think about is that the water in the pipeline has in most cases been their for many years and you get doused with water that smells like a sewer. I mean its really bad.
