You got the part that says "ethiopia had modern weaponry" wrong. The ethiopians were armed with very primitive weapons while the italians had guns and artilleries that were far more advanced and the ethiopians were devastated by reapeted wars and draught that was aggravated by the italians who brought a deadly cattle disease to ethiopia.
