  • 42.2 km in 1:59:40.2 (1:59:41 for good measure) To put it into perspective for other runners and events, that is: 17.02s/100m 34.04s/200m 1m 8.08s/400m 2m 16.16s/800m 2m 51s/kilometer 4m 35s/mile 14m 11s 5km 17m 02s 6km 28m 22s 10km He is slightly faster because I rounded up some of the numbers while making the calculations, and he probably could do better than these times if he wasn't focused on doing a marathon. The longer the distance, the more impressive his times. And if you think something like a 17.02s 100m is slow, imagine him doing it 422 times in a row.

  • I understand the whole premise of having certain standards before giving out world records, but c'mon! Pacers or not, other racers or not, fluids handed or not, he still ran 26.2 miles in less than 2 hours! I feel that is worthy of its own special world record category, if anything.

  • Even with all of this help, he just made it with 20 seconds to spare. This just proves that the sub 2 hour marathon is incredibly difficult, but this challenge wasn't meant to be a competition, it was to answer one question: Could he do it? And yes, yes he can. Eliud Kipchoge, you are THE MAN!
