Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?

  • On second thought, I'm lowering my score to a 7/10, because Mac's voice started grating on me after half a dozen listens. I still like everything else about it, though.

  • I don't even know why you're rating this album after the disrespect you showed to faces and swimming. If you actually opened those cauliflowers on the side of your head and maybe listened to the projects more than once. You would see how lyrical Mac was. Fucking fool

  • Big Bright Eyes fan, and I heard a lot of similar themes in Mac's music, as I seen in Conor's Music, at least with this album. Just felt like that was validated when you drew comparisons to M. Ward and Elliott Smith.

  • I think Circles is a beautiful and honestly perfect companion to Swimming. Mac Miller meant a lot to me, I grew up with him and his music, he might even be my favorite artist of all time. He’s impacted me the most and his music has been the soundtrack to my life in a way. I’m just grateful and feel lucky to be able to hear new music from Mac again. This record is incredible and I give so much thanks to Mac’s family and Jon Brion for the care they gave this. It honored his legacy perfectly and was refreshing to see in an industry who exploits artists in death constantly. Sonically this album felt like a Prince or Elton John record and really showcases the evolution of Mac’s sound, growth as an artist and development as a musician. He was just scratching the surface musically of what he was gonna become and reaching an artistic space, many aren’t capable of in this genre. So many songs hit deep on this one and are painful to hear, from the lyrics to the ultimate narrative of the album. It’s almost like Mac knew, but the peace within this gorgeous sonic art piece of music and the self awareness was incredible to listen to. RIP to Mac 92 Till Infinity Forever, thanks for giving him and this project the respect it deserved. Just wish his other projects and him in general would’ve got that respect while he was still here. Much love man.

  • I gladly agree that the aspect of Mac Miller's voice in the foreground was a great idea and makes the LP intimate. But it simply can't be compared to Swimming. Swimming is coherent, full of details / ornaments, yes, also groovy, diverse, surprising.. It sounds full and is resonant, it surrounds, embeds you. A lot of Circles is (well, conveniently) repetetive, sometimes the leftover elements are primitively thrown together and complemented only artificially. As far as one could know, he was quite perfectionist and I'm not able to imagine that he wouldn't have changed so so much about this record still - lyrics, PERCUSSION ELEMENTS, voice layers.. Complicated and I Can See are strictly bad songs to me, lost pieces not well tied together, not flattering his voice.. I've grown to like Hands, Woods (except those drums..) and Hand Me Downs and liked Good News from the beginning. Everyone is an awesome cover. But that's it. I am relieved you acknowledged his singing more in this review even if it's ironic, because on swimming it was much more elaborated. Seems to me you should listen to it again and recognize the completeness of it. My humble, but certain opinion. Maybe it's the respect towards Mac Miller and that he didn't have any final says, not even about all the songs being chosen for this album. Maybe I'm just still very sad!

  • Complicated was by far my favorite off Circles. I'm surprised so many claim to dislike swimming though. It seemed to have more variation yet still unified as an album. Circles just seems sad and I feel like it lacks the finishing touches Mac would have been able to put on it had he still been here. That's the catch-22 of post-humous releases. You've got other people's hands on your work and you can't do anything about it.

    • The major flaw of what you're saying is that you need to be educated on music to be able to understand and criticize music. Even if that were to be true, he does know shit about music theory, you're just judging off of what he said about the album to assume he doesn't have talent which apparently equals credibility. Keep in mind that this is his own opinion, whether you like it or not, this is the way he views the album. Your meaning of "over-analyzing" can mean surface level aspects that fantano acknowledges. All I'm saying, anybody can be criticized no matter who you are or what you know.

  • Swimming, in my opinion, was at least a 7/10. Sometimes I'd rate it a 9/10. Both albums are solid 8/10, leaning to 8.5/10. RIP Mac, at least he's resonating peacefully with the cosmos rn, a solid legacy left behind, and Circles, as in the song not the album, felt like his last goodbye. The rest of the album was a last hurrah, wishing us happy lives and hoping that everyone he touched could one day share that love to those they knew. Rest in Peace, my Prince.

    • @Exalt I did watch them all in entirety there's songs I dont like either but as a whole I believe it's better than Mac Millers.

      Oscar GalindoOscar Galindo16 gün önce
    • Not sure if you watched each review in it's entirely but, Eminem's new album was average. With a couple handful of decent songs, there are still songs on that album that aren't up to his standards or are just straight up bad. But that's common with project's runtime is over an hour or have a bunch of songs. One of the reasons why it wasn't that good. Mac's album on the other hand, doesn't overstay it's welcome and each song is made sure to sound finalized and complete, especially because this is a posthumous album. It's known that we will never know what Mac wanted but to the best of Jon Brion's ability, he gave us a cohesive album while having one of Mac's best lyricism and delivery to date. You can enjoy an album more than the other, in this case, you enjoy Eminem's album over Mac's album which is completely fine. But you can't bash fantano just because he enjoys Mac's over Eminem's album. And you seem to just care about the scores instead of just listening to what fantano has to say about the albums. I assure you, not everything you are going to agree with, but you have his explanations as to why he gave the score he did. A music nerd indeed :)

    Luke ChangLuke Chang22 gün önce
  • It always amazes me the inner workings of an addicts mind. Despite what teachers and society will tell you - they are almost always the most intelligent among us. Seriously. I've never met a drug addict who was a simple minded person. And for what they know - they suffer. "For with much wisdom comes much sorrow." Ecclesiastes 1:18 Because someone of high intelligence realizes they are alone in this world. They question everything down to their purpose, and if they influence the world around them in a positive way. They realize we are nothing but a domesticated species, like dogs, serving corporate masters who rule the world and that we are so far from our roots that our lives as individuals could hardly ever mean something. And if there is a God, it likely hates us for everything we do. To an intelligent mind, material and money mean very little. Achieving it only to realize it does not change the hollowness inside or the sense of wanting to belong. Then feeling worse for having achieved wealth others only dream about to not know how to use it in a "normal" way. To them, success is something ethereal, something that cannot be measured or packaged in a middle class neighborhood and sold as a dream. It's to find a purpose in a world that tries to strip you of every piece of your individuality, while still submitting to it's norms enough to get by monetarily and be a presentable person. But they never feel they can belong, for even in times of bonding with friends, they find their minds elsewhere - in ideas and possibilities, things that do not yet exist. To talk about the newest TV show, or what Janet did at work yesterday is an insult to them, a waste of their short time here. But all they want like anyone else is to feel loved, so they subject their soul to the torture of a normal life in order to maintain bonds with those close to them. "All my homies philosophers" Mac says in "Inside Outside". And he's right. All his homies are philosophers. Q, Ab Soul, Earl Sweatshirt. Listen to their lyrics. They are all depressed, because they all see the world for what it is - not rainbows and sunshine. The common misconception is that drugs are the cause of this depression. I disagree. They may fuel it, and create a feedback loop that is easy to get trapped in, but the real cause of any depression is intelligence. Furthermore, I think it is the modern man's struggle. Sure, we no longer have to hunt food, or worry about diseases. But we now have the free time to question our very purpose here - a painful exercise that could not have been possible thousands of years ago because we were too busy farming or hunting. As a result, we find people who are born into Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs with everything they could ask for from a physiological side, but no guidance mentally or spiritually whatsoever. It sounds stupid, but our free time and our awareness are simultaneously our greatest assets and our largest enemies.

    • i resonate with this on a whole other level. often times it feels like i’m an truly alone and mac is my only friend or person that understands me because everyone else around me is just “normal.” so reading thru this and comments alike gives me hope that one day in my personal life i can meet someone like me, someone like us and have that human connection and talk about all the crazy beautiful stuff called life.
