Mike and Rich's Top 5 Star Trek TNG Episodes! - re:View (part 2)

This is the second part of Mike and Rich's top five episodes of Star Trek TNG - done in two parts. Since they each had different episodes, it's really a top ten episode video. Done in two halves. The first half is Rich's 4th and 5th and Mike's 5th, 4th, and 3rd. Now in part 2 (part 2 of 2) it's Rich's 3rd, 2nd, and 1st of his top five and Mike's 2nd and 1st of his top five - which is a total of ten top episodes all in 2 convenient videos! Eventually Mike and Rich will do the OTHER half of their top ten episodes (another five each) which could be another ten episodes (probably done in two parts) and that would be a total of 20 episodes (two sets of top tens for Mike and Rich)- assuming they pick different episodes for the two new episodes which would be done in two parts. If they pair up the same episodes it'd be top 19 or top 18 or possibly top 17.

  • I really liked the Barclay character, it was a very different and sort of (considering he probably had some problems) funny character in Star Trek The Next Generation, with his everyday problems :)

  • Just say OK, theres 5 lights. thats not him breaking me, thats just me being a smartass. Disaster killls me! 11:19 and 11:30 keep calling him Chief, but, O'brien is clearly wearing full Lieutenant pips. That whole episode irks me because if she could assume command without taking the Command Test, why is she in command? Why take the test if she can already do it? fault in continuity, I would think. Shouldn't any Red Shirt have command over her if she didn't pass the Test? geez! But neither chose Yesterday's Enterprise??

  • I love "Disaster". It shows how a TV show aimed at a wide audience can work at any level. It's exciting enough for the dummies, fish out water humour played down all over the place, and gets smarter the more layers you peel back. It's one of the most accomplished pieces of Broad Audience Appeal TV that I've ever seen.

  • Man, I am really surprised and a bit disappointed that if you had chosen one Riker/Klingon episode, which you didn't, but that it was not the one where Riker is a real badass taking over a Klingon warship and proceeding to do battle with and best Picard and the Enterprise without hurting it. To me, that is *the* Riker episode.

  • In Chain Of Command, I think the reason for Jelico being right is in the title. Corruption in authority is ever-present, and stories focus on that because it is a huge problem and of course makes good drama. That episode though seemed to say even though the system is broken by corrupt people, there's a reason for the chain of command. When lives are on the line you need to be able to trust everyone to do their job and swallow their pride. That goes for pretty much any job in my experience but it does require knowing you can trust people. That's where it all falls down of course.

  • This has easily become one of my favorite Star Trek "favorite episode countdown" videos, mainly because these two picked more than a few episodes that I never see crop up on anyone else's lists. It seems everyone and their mother ALWAYS picks the most famous, arguably obvious choices like "Best of Both Worlds", "The Inner Light", "Q Who", etc. But these two guys went out of their way to say, "Hey, we're gonna' pick some episodes that we know, objectively, aren't the greatest, but WE love them, and we're not afraid to say that." And I'm totally on board. I practically cheered when they picked "Disaster", as that story also made my own Top 10 list. I LOVE that episode!

  • The reason why Kelsey Grammer and Bebe Neuwirth were guest stars (Neuwirth in the "First Contact" episode) was because the soundstage for Cheers, which was being shot and aired at the same time as TNG, was right next to the Star Trek soundstages. Many of the cast of Cheers were Star Trek fans and they didn't have to travel very far to do a cameo.
