Rare Footage of the Nearly Extinct Northern White Rhino | Wildlife in 360 Virtual Reality

A female northern white rhino is seen eating her way close, closer, and closer still to the WPS 360-degree video camera until she knocks it down. She is one of two northern white rhinos remaining in the world-a mother and daughter pair, Najin and Fatu, respectively. These critically endangered animals were rescued from poachers and now live in Kenya at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a wildlife sanctuary for the northern white rhinos as well as more than 110 endangered black rhinos.
The fate of the northern white rhino is uncertain, as Najin and Fatu are unable to produce offspring due to their ages, and the sole remaining male northern white rhino died in 2018. With no offspring to continue the lineage, the sub-species is all but extinct. However, scientists plan to fertilize eggs harvested from these females with sperm from the male to produce northern white rhino embryos that would then be implanted in southern white rhino surrogates.
