  • Charles is right. Kenny is just contradicting himself, first he said Lebron is 6 then said he's behind Magic and Bird. Dude is all over the place.

  • Problem with Chuck's list is, there are too many players in the same era. While Big O was a great player himself, he was a 3rd best player at best in his own era behind Wilt and Russell. Elgin Bayler, while he put some great numbers, didn't win anything significant. (No MVP, No Championship) Similar with Jerry West although he won 1 Championship with Wilt. Also, the fact that Kenny is rooting for Shaq over Hakeem speaks volume in itself. Shaq's opponents in the 2000's did get weaker but he still does have an argument for one of the highest peak of all time, and that peak lasting 3+ consecutive years is actually amazing. At the end of the day, it's usually a preference between accomplishment vs ability as well as era (Players usually prefer eras before them), but I say it needs to be combination of them all.

  • the difference between top 5 and top 20 is so slim that its not worth arguing about. Most of the top 10-20 could be interchangeable, same with the top 1-10. I don't have Russell in top 5. Playing against a bunch of slow footed white boys in a era that wanted the Celtics to win. Same with Jordan getting the benefit of every doubt put Rings on his finger.

  • I absolutely agree that Shaq is a top 10 player in the league. He won almost everywhere he went, dominant player and was the NBA finals MVP for 3 straight year. I have to agree with Kenny on this one, all he needed was one great player to win the a championship.

  • Kenny is a hypocrite on this one. He played with Hakeem. Guys who didnt play with Hakeem would put him over Shaq (not by a mile of course). It just so happens Shaq was in the room and he knows about Shaq's ego. Chuck says it as it is.

  • Depends how you define greatness. Lebron has been the a top 3 player in the league for like 15 years and indisputably the best for many of those years. That's absolutely crazy. MJ still gets the nod over Lebron because of the titles and always showing up big in the big moments.

  • You can make the inverse argument for Kenny’s biggest argument piece. He’s saying since he played against his top picks, that’s what makes them on his list. You can easily make a case against him because he hasn’t played against prime Lebron or prime Kobe or anyone from the 2000’s really. It’s a useless conversation because we will all be prisoners of our eras. Kenny does have a good point in people devaluing centers though. I agree with that

  • I ... don't disagree with Kenny. If you give me a choice between 20 year-old Shaq and 18 year-old LeBron James ... I'm taking Shaq. Then I'm going to transplant the late, great Kobe Bryant's work ethic into Shaq's mentality and win everything for about 10 years. Also, a lot of people saying "You're ignoring Tim Duncan". Tim Duncan is on record saying that Wilt Chamberlain is a level above him, and of the three "Greatest Centers" (Bill/Wilt/Kareem) it's practically unanimous that Wilt is the bottom of the pile. You have Jordan at number one, so you'll have to slot Wilt at No. 4 at best, therefore Tim Duncan's maximum possible spot is now, therefore, 5th. Now let's look at the other players: do you put Tim Duncan above Magic Johnson and Larry Bird? In terms of accomplishments, he's definitely not Magic, so, okay, let's say he displaces Larry through sheer longevity and Championship+Finals MVP numbers. Now that puts him at 6th, at best. But hang on, here's a twist! People have been on record saying that Bird is at least comparable to Russell. Auerbach has even said that if there was a trade that offered Bird for Russell, he'd take it. The same man he won 9 Championships alongside has that to say of him. Since Russell is agreed to be better than Wilt, we can assume that since Russell and Bird are somewhat equal, that would displace WILT and bring Johnson, who is seen as Bird's superior, UP. That leaves Tim Duncan standing at 7th, at best, now. Now, let's look at the next names on the list: Shaquille O'Neal. Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan are contemporaries, for sure. Shaq has 4 rings, Tim has 5. Tim has 2 MVPs, Shaq has 1. In terms of a single dominant season and peak, Shaq wins. But if we're comparing their whole careers--even if we cut off the tail ends--we can see that Tim holds the edge. Now Tim Duncan stands 7th and now, the new guy, Shaq, is 8th at best. But what about the next challenger? LeBron James. Where does he stand? Personally, I place LeBron above Kareem, but below Magic Johnson. Do you? Comment below. Current slots: 1. Michael Jeffrey Jordan 2. Earvin Magic Johnson 3. LeBron James (?) 4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 5. Larry Bird 6. Bill Russell 7. Wilt Chamberlain 8. Tim Duncan (?) 9. Shaquille O'Neal (?) 10. ????

  • Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West are extremely overrated. No way Bron, Duncan and Magic aren't top 7 or so. This whole talk about championships and records is misguided, skill, overall dominance of the game and how representative they were to the league are all more importante. In no possible world is someone so offensively mediocre like Russell, who played in a midget unskilled era, a better player than Bron, Magic, Kobe, KD or even Shaq, he would get destroyed multiple times by any of these guys.

  • Kenny, you cleaned it up saying the Shaq pick was "sentimental", but c'mon man (and yes, Shaq is a shoe in, top 10 pick) but how in the "RICKY BOBBY" is the "THE DREAM, THE NIGERIAN NIGHTMARE", and arguably(and I do believe) the greatest center to ever touch a basketball, not be in your TOP 10???
