Space Tourism Reborn : Twelve People Will Fly To Space In The Next 12 Months!

There were 8 flights to the ISS between 2001 and 2009 carrying private spaceflight participants, or, Space Tourists. Nobody has flown since then except for a couple of suborbital hops on Virgin Galactic. Now the prospect of space tourism is back in force with 4 flights scheduled to orbit and more on the horizon carrying a dozen participants to one of the most exclusive destinations.

  • So I have a question. How hard would it be to make an ISS module that would be much larger than the ones already there. The JEM is the largest one as of today but could there be an assembly to make one as large as a cantina for example? Or a smaller concert venue. Just wondering how much of a hassle that would be to build, haul up there and maintain. Thanks!

  • As a submariner, Larry Conner has my respect, as he went into the depths- arguably more challenging and dangerous than spaceflight. I'd love to get the ticket for a ride into orbit, but Bravo-Zulu to anyone who does..........................

  • You can do zero-G by renting a Cessna 150 and nosing it over into a parabolic arc, no need for a jetliner. Of course the cabin is too small to really float around, but you'll feel it, alright. Just pretend you're in a Gemini capsule.

  • Such a great positive take, I think a big part of why I enjoy your videos so much. But really summed up by the point at the end when you're reflecting on the chance of you getting into space, and seeing it's relatively high now! If it's possible by selling your house and cutting ties with the family ......... that also speaks volumes!!! Exciting times ahead. My question, is how much will it cost to go to the moon when the exponential curve matures. Or perhaps more to the point in 20 years when I will be retired and at last doors to physically do it!?

  • It's one thing sending actors and investors to the ISS, but space exploration won't be fully validated until a Kardashian is in space with her NBA-star boyfriend-du-jour. That will be when it gets real for me.

  • I think Starship will be what provides truly affordable access to space, but I won't trust that thing with my own life until it's done at least a few hundred consecutive successful flights, which I expect to take several years at least.

    • @Bryan B are you seriously suggesting wealth inequality to the point where there highly unfathomably rich people, meanwhile people that did nothing wrong but be born in the wrong family or country struggle to survive and die from easily preventable disease, is a good thing?

      Ess REss R28 gün önce
    • @Ess R How is wealth inequality a problem? There is no finite amount of wealth. Everyone in the US is free to create their own. Commercialization of space is going to lead to great things. Why do you think govt should have monopoly on space?

      Bryan BBryan B28 gün önce
    • @Bryan B tbh if our wealth inequality wasn’t so huge I wouldn’t have much problem with it. Though also the government is funding a for profit company, idk I’m not like gonna do anything about it. Any type of Space tech is cool just kinda sad about the coming commercialization of space.

  • Sadly in our late stage capitalism the only way we'll get further into space is if there's a profit motive, the government doesn't want to pay NASA anymore so progress there has stalled, private companies are now taking over with space tourism and mining in mind because they expect to get something in return from it.

In my opinion, you've certainly earned a free ride for all for the accurate and positive information and publicity you've provided to the space program, both nationally and internationally. Thanks for all you do, please keep up the good work and fly safe!

    • Nope, one falcon9 launch that's equivalent of TWO statistical airliner flights... there are 150 000 - hundred fifty THOUSANDS airliners flights EVERY DAY. Ellon can launch a rocket every day and its enviromental impact will still be miniscule.

  • I guess its worth a foot note in a wiki page. But its just rich people playing with toys. Sub orbitals in specific are just very expansive toys that wont change anything. Its why i tend to always care about starship news but not a lot about random expendable lunch of satellites number what ever. Because one have the potential to change the future and the other is a routine business operation. If you are not talking about something that will reduce the fundamental cost then its just the same old thing with a new coat of paint to me.
