Valve Aren't The Bad Guys! - Engadget Video Response (Half-Life: Alyx)

On March 19th 2020, 4 days before the release of Half-Life: Alyx the channel Engadget released a video titled "‘Half-Life: Alyx’ shows Valve’s bad attitude". In this video they commented on Valves actions towards the gaming industry regarding VR, the Valve Index and Half-Life. Today we take a look at what Engadget has to say on the topic.
How excited are you for Half-Life: Alyx... Let's chat in the comments!

I know this video may seem quite different from the ones I normally create, there is a chance a change in direction will be taken for the Half-Peeps channel, more updates on this to come in a future video.

  • Valve created a business model that allowed untold thousands of indie developers to sell their products directly to the customer, revolutionising the market and creating the current indie business model... but because another company came along over a decade later and offered a larger cut of the profit, Steam's cut of the profits is now proof that they're anti-developer? Total nonsense.

  • I've been highly critical of Valve, but Engadget's video is ridiculous. The insinuation that not having stockholders prevents "rational consumerism" and makes Valve "anti consumer" is completely backwards, we only need to look at companies with stockholders to see how that corporate structure results unethical business practices. What a bizarre attempt at clickbait.

  • TL;DR that individuals videos is just them whining about not having VR or a decent pc

  • Saying something bad about Valve and especially for half life is something you don't want to mess around.

  • I personally liked the Engadget vid tbh at first, though it was exagerrated, but from your vid you gave me a new perspective since you're not chocking on valves c*ck. I personally hate valve, not the individual devs, they treat tf2 as if it's a piece of sh*t that happened to stick to their shoes, valve are incompetent af when it comes to updates, they over nerf or over buff weapons in most of their competitive games, they could've made tf2 a huge esport with a little work but because of their r*tarded business model and mindset of no communication they are trying to kill tf2, tf2 had a hacker infestation for months now and recently bots are crashing servers

  • Is Valve “anti-consumer?” Naaaah! **coughBLIZZARDcough** Is Valve taking a big risk with this game? Absolutely! Of course, this is pretty much standard practice for Valve. Don’t get me wrong, I personally would prefer a HL3/EP3 with a good old fashion mouse and keyboard setup. But despite the fact that I cannot play this game due to not owning a VR set, I am still looking forward to Valve’s new interesting project. Btw, when HL2 was released, there was outrage on the fact that you need Steam in order to play. And looked on how THAT turned out... ;)

  • 4:38 that is simply false, it's only a stopgap before something better, even then, traditional gaming will never die

  • Well done on making this. I couldn’t believe what I was watching! The endgadget video It was unbelievably entitled, inaccurate, and ignorant (they don’t understand what the word anti-consumer means) and a cheap grab for hits.

  • I genuinely believe that half life alyx is necessary for half life 3 or half life 2 episode 3. I think the story that they are going to set up in Alyx will lead directly into the sequel to half life 2.
