  • It really annoyed me that he thought that the water turbulence was what kept the ship afloat, and that he thought that that was buoyancy. The ships float because the air inside them is a lot less dense than water so it pushes up and keeps the boat afloat.

  • Oh Boy, are you in for a real Treat... Naval warships are Truly Huge and Powerful. One of the Most Formidable Forces in a Military with no Doubt. And Naval warfare is the Most effective for Multiple reasons. I'll save it for later though. but i want to get you to Truly Grasp How Large And powerful Naval warships are, For Example; the Largest warship and most glorious of them all, without a Doubt. The Mighty, American, Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier Of the US navy. it has a Length of 1,106 Feet (337 M), has a Beam/Width of 256 feet, a Height of 250 feet, Dispaces 106,000+ Tonnes, and can Carry 75+ Aircraft. To Sum up The amount of Air Dominance the Gerald R. Ford can Bring TO any War 75 Aircraft carriers is basically a larger than Usual Attack Wing with a Wing having a Base of 60 Aircraft (3 Squadrons and each squadron is comprised of about 20 Aircraft). this can be 30 Naval Air Superiority Fighters and 30 Naval Strike fighters... And these Fighters are Capable of Dealing so Pretty Heavy Fire power.

  • ACTULLY, the Paris gun was a far smaller gun than the 16in naval guns of the Iowa, but they were very, VERY long guns. for context, the Paris gun's caliber (the width of the shells) was about 203mm in the early models, and the iowa's guns were exactly twice that at 406mm, but due to the iowa's guns being only 50 calibers long (the barrel length compared to the width of the shell), they couldn't fire as far.

    KasyuKasyu21 gün önce
  • Lets not forget plans were made to build a 4-turreted version of the Iowa, called the Montana Class of battleships that would have 12 guns instead 9.

  • "Battleships were too costly to operate compared to cruisers with cruise missles" True, but if the cruiser were to run out of Missiles - or somehow have its silos disabled - how's it going to fight with just a single 6inch QF gun? Put said missiles on a battleship, and its a whole new ball game.

    David KnowlesDavid Knowles23 gün önce
  • Couple of finer points, the gun technology was actually 1930's tech that was just slightly modified 1900's tech. Btw, the Paris gun was 238mm (little over 9 inches) while the Iowa has 16 in guns (406mm) or a she under TWICE the size. If modern artillery projectile technology were to be applied to the Iowa's guns today, the range and precision would be well over 200 miles and be able to drop that 2,700 pound bomb inside a small kiddie pool in your back yard. Also, the Iowa wasn't even the biggest battleship ever built, nor did it have the biggest guns ever built on a battleship, look up the Yamato and Musashi and you might be a little more impressed. Can we say little man syndrome on a national scale? ( even though they were the biggest ships and guns built, the Iowa class could still out range and penetrate further than the 18 inch guns of the Yamato class)
