  • Rich keep it up, nothing wrong with your welds. Work on 1 inch holds 1 ton, you have plenty. Welding in nothing more complicated than practice.

  • Way too thick of metal used for the battery support! You could have used thinner metal and just made two thin straps to hold on the battery pack. Time to start planning things out a little more. You've been doing this too long to keep hacking things up - so use some of those skills to plan out the build first before executing. It's time to step up your game and put down the butter knife.

  • If you can get a Argon Gas conversion for your welder, I think that would help your welds. How heavy are the batteries and things that are getting mounted on that plate? My thought is you might like to have the weight a bit lower in the car for handling.

  • Love your content... Can I suggest you dont use tabs on the battery box... instead use 2 metal straps. This will distribute the load better. Its common on larger fuel cells that are only bolted with the tabs to rip off under braking or cornering. I could only imagine what would happen with the weight of that battery box.

    Jonathan GriffinJonathan Griffin25 gün önce
    • I don't think it can; I don't think that the maximum brightness on TRvision is enough to hurt your eyes, and the scenes of the welding arc in this video are pretty short as well. The welding arc is probably way brighter in real life.

  • Rich , in 2025 EV sales will skyrocket and very little mechanics can service them , your knowledge will be gold for about 7 years . You need to start a consultation Business exploiting what you know about these cars . you could teach Mechanics shops how to run this rat race ... Dont waste this opportunity .

  • With all the welding vids out there... DID YOU WATCH ANY.... My dad's an engineer and he could barely watch... Tack weld the corners and check for allignment and make sure that any servicable areas are not blocked... Then weld the crap out of it slowly for a good solid clean weld.

  • Bro, kewl concept, I'm digging on the whole E-Vehicle vibe. I'd see if there's someone who can put some better welds down. A buddy who can help you out. Not saying a BooHoo at all. Wish I could get you my brother, an excellent welder. I'd wish I could build something similar. Probably more along the lines of a lightweight, long range, medium load E-Bike. Keep it up, I look forward to more great videos.

  • Hey Rich, I suck at welding too, but my friend told me to just take my time and do a slow cursive "e" circular motion and it really helped me out. Maybe give that a try and see if it helps your welds out.

  • Hey rich, when flux core welding it's always important to sand/brush the slag off before laying another bead. Otherwise you will entrap the slag in the filler metal weakining the welds. I'm no pro welder either but I am concerned for those welds, might be best to get a pro or a friend to touch it up. I love this project keep up the great work!

  • Use a 2.5" (63mm) diametre hole saw and drill some airholes in the 1/4" plates to lose even more weight. Chamfer off the edges of the plates at 45' where you're going to be welding to the chassis arms. Looks like you're using gasless, flux cored wire instead of a shielding gas which, to be honest, is never going to give a great weld. Buy, borrow, steal a MIG welder and use 20% argon/80% CO2 mix, that will give you a much less brittle weld (and easier to weld). Use approx 40 amps per 1/16" thickness, weld slow, keep the torch upright at around 95' and weave keeping the majority of the weld on the thicker piece of metal.
