What is the BEST Fuel to Use in Your Car or Truck and WHY

Ever wonder what grade gasoline should you use in your car (what octane)? Are you paying for premium gas when you can just use regular? Are you using regular and damaging your engine? This video will bust all of the myths and tell you the FACTS on what fuel you should use and why.
Many people throw money away and fill their car with the incorrect fuel every day. Running premium or midgrade in a car designed to run regular is a waste of money and has no HP or MPG benefits. You will not make more power or get better fuel economy running premium fuel if the car manufacturer tunes the car to use regular gas in most cases. I also see some people run regular gas in cars that need premium and the knock sensors have to adjust timing significantly to prevent damaging engine knock. I also hear a lot of people say that premium gasoline has more energy or burns cooler or slower so I will put a rest to all of these "myths" with facts.

  • Just to let you know, although most places have 3 grades of Fuel, They only order 2, I know From Shell where my Step dads runs 3. They only order bronze and Gold, there is no Silver. Silver is a 50 50 mix of bronze and gold. So buy Silver and get the additives and don't buy Gold, not sure about Knocking though, depends if 89 is enough for your car.

  • wtf in germany V-power has at least 100 octane :D generally those octane numbers are quite low... most people here use super which has 95 octane. some also use e10 which is super with 10% bio-ethanol

  • Despite the manufacturers recommended 85 fuel for my 2018 Honda Civic EXT, I’ve only used 93 since buying it new. And I’ve only used Shell because of the extreme high detergent additive in their 93. I’ve always been aware of the flaw in modern turbo design and every little bit of detergent helps. I’m gonna take the Civic in for a valve cleaning at 50,000 miles. I’m curious as to how much or how little carbon deposits have accumulated in the valves.

  • Chris nailed all the key points here. As a foreigner that lived in America since a child, I found out that Americans have easy to understand octane ratings. Shell is my go to gas station because I have shell fuel rewards. BP is my second choice. My Toyota calls for octane 87 or higher for better performance so I stick with octane 89. What people don’t understand is that when you’re at the gas pump..... take your time! If you forget what fuel you need. You can lookup your car. I wouldn’t do this at a crowded gas station though and don’t rely on the gas station worker. They don’t know your vehicle. I witnessed a dude did that and the employee told him the wrong octane.

  • 87 has the most energy (BTU) for the same volume and the higher the rating number the more retardant added to slow burn time and pinging is when fuel burns too fast so a retardant is added to slowdown burn rate. Premium fuel starts off as 87 octane when delivered to gas station first additives is added into underground tank and then 87 octane fuel is added to allow through mixing of additives. The trucker always measures remaining volume of underground tank so he can formulate amount of additives needed proceeding with fuel that is all 87 octane, the more or less additives the specific octane rating achieved which is how they get 89 or 93 octane.

  • Just a little info from a refinery chemist... Back between the post-lead to pre-ethanol years of gasoline, premium fuel did provide a modest improvement in fuel economy for some vehicles (mainly fuel injected). This is because premium fuel was made up mostly of reformate (a highly aromatic blendstock) which has a much higher density (~44 api) than all other gasoline blend stocks. Premium would average between 58-60 api and regular gasoline was between 64-66 api. The higher fuel density translated to higher energy content for a given volume. Nowadays gasoline is quite a bit different, refiners have had to reformulate their gas blends to accommodate ethanol, lower BETX, etc... Hence, the belief in premium having better fuel economy is currently no longer accurate today, but it was between (roughly) 1990-2011.

    John DanielJohn Daniel6 gün önce
  • You've got some misinformation here. While it's a small difference, there is a greater amount of energy in lower octane fuels. Additionally, you can even have a fuel that's the same octane as another, yet a different energy potential than another if it has a different mix of ethanol. Ethanol-free 91 contains more energy than E10 91 octane.
