    • Minute 1:09 - Giolitti and Vittorio Emanuele III. That map is just WRONG. The map of Italy you keep on showing at the beginning of this video until the start of WWI is flawed. The regions of Veneto and Friuli-Venenzia Giulia (up to Udine) were part of the Italian territory since 1866 already (the so-called Third Italian War of Independence - Vittorio Emanuele II against the Austro-Hungarian empire). In your video you are basically showing a map of the 1848 Italian borders claiming that those were the borders of Italy 70 years later at the outset of WWI and after three Independence Wars had been fought and thousands had died. At the same time though, very ironically (or ignorantly), in that same map you show the State of the Vatican as part of Italy, which however was incorporated into Italian territories only at a later stage than Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia (i.e. only in 1870 after the capture of Rome, "breccia di Porta Pia" in Italian). Chief, you should study your historical facts before making TRvision videos.

In this situation, the 90% of the Italian Army troop were occupied there in the rescue operations. In all this Austria was organising the invasion of Northern Italy!!

  • It would be time to stop with this insulting myth of Italy changing sides and betray alliances. 1) The Triple Alliance was a DEFENSIVE alliance: if anyone attacked Germany, Austria-Hungary or Italy, the allied would rush to defense. But WW1 wasn't a defensive war. Austria-Hungary attacked Serbia under the pretext to punish the assassination of prince Franz-Ferdinand (which was done by a Serbian student, but at Sarajevo in Bosnia which was then in Austria-Hungary Empire, not in Serbia). Hence when Germany and Austria-Hungary enter the war, Italy wasn't obliged to help them. 2) Italy remained neutral because it had no interest in war, like Switzerland or Spain for exemple. 3) The help of Italy, however, was tempting for both the belligerents and Italy chose the side that gave more concessions. Each state chooses its interest. In conclusion Italy hasn't betrayed anyone. It was not supposed to help in a war of aggression like the WW1. Study history instead of insulting. I also say this to the authors of the video who have omitted this essential element and they insulted in the title. N.B. Another mistake in this video there is when it is said that the rise of nationalism (and fascism) is due to the huge loss of human life in this war. It was instead the betrayal of France and Great Britain that did not gave to Italy what they had promised (Dalmatia, Albania, a region in Turkey). In Italy this was known as the "Vittoria Mutilata" (mutilated victory). It wasn't Italy to betray Germany and Austria-Hungary, but France and UK to betray Italy. Nobody ever says it.

  • Betrayed seems a bit exaggerated consider the politics of the time made by secret pacts and secret diplomacy. Consider in the years of the triple alliance Austria newer considered Italy well. Also had prepared some war plans to invade the peninsula. This was the relaxing air in Europe at the time.

  • You didn’t mention that Italy and Austria-Hungary were bound by the Triple Alliance treaty which included, among other things, the obligation of mutual information about their respective diplomatic initiatives but Italy has been informed from Austria and Germany about their intention of war only the 23rd of July 1914, and even later about the actual text of ultimatum sent to Serbia. Furthermore, Vienna always refused to discuss the compensation that should have been incurred in Italy (art. 7 of the alliance) in the event of Austrian expansion in the Balkans. Eventually, even the State Secretary of the German Foreign Office von Jagow recognized the right of Italy to stay neutral during the war.

And it does have mountains to "Defend" it self but in reality Italy is just like Normandy , being cornered in Europe so eh I'll let Italy switching sides it does make sense tho

  • I want to ask our latin american friends what's the point of being racist against italy everytime this man posts a video about it. The comment section is supposed to be a place to share our opinions politely. And what i see is comment of hate made by fat keyboard warriors. If you hate white people or more specifically italian people, ask yourself if other commenters would like or even care about your racist opinions. Italian managed to overcome a better organised empire even with crappy equipment, the main duty of a government is to care about his own country and people, not the other ones. Austro-Hungary held italian-speaking territories, the entente promised these territories, italy accepted and without foreign help won against Austo-hungary and didn't even get all of the promised territories. If you're a racist fucktard do not comment under a video made to spread knowledge.
