Why It's Almost Impossible to Solve a Rubik's Cube in Under 3 Seconds | WIRED

The current world record for solving a Rubik's cube is 3.47 seconds. Could it be faster? WIRED's Robbie Gonzalez explores the mind-boggling math and finger-twisting world of speed cubing. Read more on this story from Robbie on WIRED.com: www.wired.com/story/how-to-solve-a-rubiks-cube-in-5-seconds-or-less/

  • Indeed with enough interest, training and practice you too can solve any puzzle cube! Look at me, I finally learned how to do the 3x3 last February at the young age of 39 and a half, lol! My boy showed me the “beginner’s method” and in around 6 weeks or so (No rushing) I was able to do it! After that I wanted more and when last October and November came around I had learned how to solve and now proudly own the 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 and 7x7 cubes! All with the lovely beginner’s method lol. As far as speed goes, my single best time with the 2x2 is 15.89 seconds, and for the 3x3 it’s 58.10 seconds respectively. All good, not planning to become a full time speedcubing competitor any time soon, just doing it for fun. But y’all got the point, right?

  • I learned it by myself without the help of internet, and found out that my method is the fastest method used to solve this. My idea is the shuffling layer by layer, and combine the pattern per layer. That is how you solve the las layer, by combining permutations. There's a lot of combinations. And pick the pattern with most mobilized by my hands.

    • I learned the beginner's way of solving it and the fastest I could do is under 1 minute and 30 seconds? Which is really slow for a cuber. I tried learning the advanced version but it's kinda difficult. I really want an easier and faster way in which I could solve it. It's been around 3 years since I learned the beginner's method and I still feel like a noob after watching this video. Is there a way I could learn your method in an efficient way? I really wanna improve my cubing ability.

  • The amount of me_irl comments on this video are horrific. You all can solve a cube. It’s not that hard when you know how to do it. Go watch a tutorial video. I learned how to do it in a matter of hours. Enough with the “it takes me 30 years to solve a cube 😂😂😂” BS. You won’t solve it if you don’t know how. You can’t just stumble upon the solution one day. You have to know algorithms. It really isn’t that difficult.
