  • I wanted to point out Gusteau is LITERALLY a figment of Remys imagination that is why he cannot tell him anything in about the will, and just says “This used to be my office “ 😊

  • I didn't like it. The film can only connect to the ambitious. It boosts their confidence in their skill, whether they knew they had it or not. To me, someone who has no particular outstanding skill or drive, I relate to "the noodle guy." Y'know, that one guy who was completely screwed over and left in the rats shadow. Watching this wasn't a great experience for me. The film makes me feel inferior especially with the message, "Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere." I mean, I get that we're supposed to insert ourselves as Remy, but, they scrunched up Linguini's end in the last few minutes. The storyline is terrible, it's like they were in a rush and just picked the fastest route. I feel bad for Linguini, someone really didn't want him to be a well made character and gave him a poorly crafted story. Bonus reasons why Linguini is my favorite: he's average looking, doesn't stand out or seem special, makes mistakes, and isn't a powerful character - he's at the bottom of the food chain. Here's why Remy ISN'T my favorite character: he is special, morally straight (the stealing was by his family and he takes/is given no blame), and he's confident. I'm not, and I don't feel like this movie was made for people like me. (Sorry this was long, not saying the movie was bad, just expressing my personal view)

  • I know it's not Disney, but you can't talk about Brad Bird and not bring up The Iron Giant, because holy shit that entire backstory is depressing as hell. Everything from the writing of the book, to the making of the movie, to the release of the movie. It is just so tragic. I'm glad Disney took a chance on him because he deserves it

  • In regards to the lack of a goal in the plot and feeling like an indie movie, I thought that was intentional to mirror French cinema, which stereotypically follows such a pattern. Bird probably did it on purpose so that adults watching the film would actually feel like the movie was in France, despite being in English. It’s done with subtlety considering they could have very easily made this a goal-oriented story.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but, Linguine isn't actually Gusteau's son right? I believe that it was a combination of circumstances that led to this assumption. 1. A desperate mother begging for a job for her son by claiming Gusteau had an affair with her and 2. When they did a DNA test in the movie to test if Linguine was actually Gusteau's son, they said it was match but then said the hair also came back as from a rat. There's a popular theory suggesting that this means that Gusteau actually had a rat controlling him as well, would love to see this answered by some people so help me out here! :)

  • I disagree that Ratatouille isn't goal-oriented. Remy has a clear want from the very beginning of the movie. Remy's want is to be validated as a chef. You see that in the beginning with his brother and dad, then Linguini is the first person to validate him, and that's why he's ego creates conflict in the second act. He wants validation and he only gets that at the end of the movie. I think a lot of Indie movies are still goal-oriented. They may not be a physical goal like defeat the bad guy or get to a certain location, but the character is trying to achieve something that they want. In indie movies, it's usually a state of being. They want to be free, they want a father figure, they want validation.

  • The song "Le Festin" that is used in the movie (the one with the girl singing in French when Linguini gets to his new house) has a beautiful line: "Un voleur solitaire est triste à nourir" which roughly translates to "A lonely thief is sad to feed". That line always gives me a little goosebump when you realize just how much it's a part of Remy and how much he hates it

  • I agree with everything you said except for your underrating of Wall-E. Literally half the movie has no words whatsoever but still communicates easily with the viewer and transmits emotions of all kinds. It also sort of has that 2 creatures in 2 different worlds idea (Wall-E and the humans). The introduction of the grim topic was done in such an ironic but powerful manner and brings up many political issues in our world.

    • @Vasilija Bera I don't know. She's a nice character, but she's too nice. Like almost fucking perfect. I have never met anyone as nice as her, so it makes me feel inadequate because I was in a friendless, unlikable stage at 13, in which I became bitter. She's like the perfect ideal character that doesn't exist. I don't know. I watch the movie a lot, but find myself hating myself even more than I already did.

  • That analysis was class. Wow! You really put a lot of work and thought into it, and it shows. One of the best analysis of a film I have seen and your very best video to date... in my opinion. The only minor point I disagree with is the Skinner thing. I don’t believe it was the script wanting to cling to him. He was just a good plot tool to have Remy dash in at the last second to save his friend from complete disaster. It’s a plot device used to build tension. Any other inconvenience that kept Remy from the restaurant-the tension leading to the final act of the film-would’ve felt contrived. Nevertheless, that’s simply a very minor and insignificant quibble to a review that was honestly incredible.

Wait... it’s not a Pixar film?! Even for their low points, they were like, “We refuse to stoop THAT low.” You should make a video on Disney’s Planes.
